zoom - galleria Sunderland have endured a predictably shaky start to the season, and with 13 games behind them only three points separate them from one of the dreaded relegation spots. Nevertheless, the former Manchester United legend still projects an aura of calm.
“My gut feeling is we’ll be okay. We’ve done all right, but the next step is the biggest one we have to take,” he said.
“I believe that at the end of the season we’ll have enough points to look back and say we’ve had a decent campaign.
“There’s still a hell of a lot of work to do but I believe the fans appreciate the progress we’re making.”
Though he preferred not to comment on possible targets during the winter window, the broody Irish manager is thought to be most keen on recruiting Portsmouth midfielder Matt Taylor and Manchester United defender Jonny Evans.
