England’s stand in skipper Steven Gerrard was a relieved man when Israel sent Russia packing. He has now urged his team mates to get ready for the most important game against Croatia on Wednesday, which offers the Englishmen a golden chance to qualify for next year’s European Championships.
A draw is all that the Three Lions need to atone for their poor results and seal their place in the finals.
The Liverpool captain believes that it’s an excellent opportunity to capitalize on.
Make The Most Of The Chance
“We have been given another chance and that has to motivate every player on Wednesday evening,” said Gerrard.
“Everyone must give everything to try to be there next summer.
“If we don’t get there it will be so frustrating and we have to make sure we have the right mentality on Wednesday.”
After The Russian Defeat
Gerrard admits that life has been difficult after the away defeat to Russia in October where he missed a chance.
“Since we lost the game in Russia it has been difficult to be an England player, to be honest," he said.
"To be in a situation where it’s been out of our hands and you are relying on other people is not a situation you want to be in and not a situation we should have been in.
“England want to be in the big tournaments and that’s where we need to earn the right to be by getting the right result on Wednesday.
"Now we are looking forward to one of the biggest games of our lives.”
